cindy&AdamSeptember 17, 2014, PrattMWP Communications Design Students celebrated Constitution Day with the launch of a new movement. Leading up to the event, without explanation the phrase “Let’s Get Busy” blanketed the campus. The intention was to build interest by creating an inquisitive buzz among students while satisfying curriculum objectives for Communications Design courses.
Political pollster John Zogby was in attendance as our guest and inspiration. Mr. Zogby founder of the “Zogby Poll” has been heralded as “the nation’s most accurate trend analyst today.” As the event unfolded it became apparent that our theme; “Let’s Get Busy” refers to Zogby’s offer to help and serves as a challenge to this generation of First Globals to use their outstanding talents to lead the world.

The event featured a poster/art exhibit, a voter registration table hosted by the League of Women Voters, and an informational booth with CNY Citizens in Action providing information about the upcoming Climate March in NYC.

Agents of Change

While planning a Constitution Day Event on our campus, it became evident that this federal observance is relatively unheard of. We brainstormed ways to celebrate and promote the useful framework and principles our founding fathers established in 1787. I teach my students that three of the most effective communication tools are: humor, shock, and interactivity. So as  “Agents of Change” we encouraged participants to sign existing petitions to the government. In effort to make a bigger impact, we choose to practice our Constitutional right to create a NEW petition in a humorous and entertaining way. This petition is a satirical and interactive method to bring attention to this important day and exposes people to the ease of participation through platforms such as MoveOn.org.
