Should Comic Sans be giving medical advice?

comic sans close

Let’s take a closer look at what is really on this billboard. A sad, sick, brown girl is illustrated here with her concerned mother interacting with a white male doctor wearing a lab coat and a stethoscope. The headline is set in the world’s most cringeworthy font and is displayed in what appears to be a speech bubble. This is not a joke — this is a real campaign.

One would assume that Blue Cross Blue Shield would be able to afford a professional design team that knows better than to use comic sans to advertise medicine.  Which makes me question whether this was purposely designed for this lower income location.
